We are studying The European Union. Since its birth, the EU has been enlarging in different occasions. Some countries have joined the EU in different enlargements, but the most important one is the Fifth Enlargement, 2004. This year, 10 new countries have become Member States. Almost all of them were part of the former Soviet Union, that's why there are quite unknown to us.

TASK
What are we going to do? We will divide the class in 10 groups. Each group will represent one of the last 10 new members. You have to collect some information about these countries because you have to prepare a brochure about the country you represent. The idea is to make a tourist guide about your country. You have to prepare an oral exposition about the country to the rest of the class. In this oral presentation, you have to show your knowledge about the European Union, and all the information that you have collected from the internet about the country you represent.

PROCESS

In order to complete your task, you will visit some websites to get all the information about your country. Historic information, culture, traditions. Currency, prices...

RESOURCES

Here you have the list of websites that are useful to achieve your task. There are some pages about Europe in general. They are very interesting and worth-visiting. There are also some games to enjoy yourselves!

To look for documents that you\'ll need to travel, currencies, VAT rates etc... - http://europa.eu.int/abc/travel/tourist/index_en.htm

EVALUATION

We will evaluate the information given on your brochure, the amount of data collected. The presentation, clear, clean... The resources used. The English structures used in the brochure. The oral presentation, the fluidity, the expressions,...

CONCLUSION

Now we have learnt more about the different countries that form the European Union. Do you feel more Europeans?
